چکیده

The fractal scaling properties of the heartbeat time series are studied in a controlled ergometric regime using the Hurst rescaled range R/S analysis. The long-time ”memory effect” quantified by the value of the Hurst exponent H > 0.5 is found to increase during progresive physical activity at healthy subjects in contrast to those having stable angina pectoris (SAP), where it is decreasing. We argue that this finding may be used as a useful new diagnostic parameter for short heartbeat time series.

Modified periodogram method for estimating the Hurst exponent of fractional Gaussian noise.

Fractional Gaussian noise (fGn) is an important and widely used self-similar process, which is mainly parametrized by its Hurst exponent (H) . Many researchers have proposed methods for estimating the Hurst exponent of fGn. In this paper we put forward a modified periodogram method for estimating the Hurst exponent based on a refined approximation of the spectral density function. Generalizing ...

Exact confidence intervals for the Hurst parameter of a fractional Brownian motion

In this short note, we show how to use concentration inequalities in order to build exact confidence intervals for the Hurst parameter associated with a one-dimensional fractional Brownian motion.

Bayesian estimation of self-similarity exponent

In this study we propose a bayesian approach to the estimation of the Hurst exponent in terms of linear mixed models. Even for unevenly sampled signals and signals with gaps, our method is applicable. We test our method by using artificial fractional brownian motion of different length and compare it with the detrended fluctuation analysis technique. The estimation of the Hurst exponent of a Ro...

Brain Functional Connectivity Changes During Learning of Time Discrimination

The human brain is a complex system consist of connected nerve cells that adapts with and learn from the environment by changing its regional activities. Synchrony between these regional activities called functional network changes during the life, and with learning of new skills. Time perception and interval discrimination are among the most necessary skills for the human being to perceive mot...

Low-order chaos in sympathetic nerve activity and scaling of heartbeat intervals.

The mechanism of 1/f scaling of heartbeat intervals remains unknown. We recorded heartbeat intervals, sympathetic nerve activity, and blood pressure in conscious rats with normal or high blood pressure. Using nonlinear analyses, we demonstrate that the dynamics of this system of three variables is low-order chaos, and that sympathetic nerve activity leads to heartbeat interval and blood pressur...
